Leadership Skills for Lean Organizations

Sterling Institute provides cost-effective support to help organizations implement continuous performance improvement methodologies. We have a comprehensive series of training programs that enable employees to develop both the hard and soft-skills required to master our Time Focused Lean methodology, work successfully in lean project teams and acquire the leadership skills required to bring about organizational change. In addition, we have the consulting expertise to help project teams successfully implement their project plans and the assessment tools needed to measure individual and organizational performance over time.

Our Time Focused Lean program develops the hard skills project team members need in order to identify and eliminate non value-added time. Participants acquire the capabilities they need to improve capacity, customer satisfaction and workplace morale and to reduce waste, costs, errors and lead time. Teams apply Time Focused Lean tools and techniques directly to pressing process problems culminating in the development of comprehensive and measurable project plans they are prepared to implement back on the job. In addition to the hard skills associated with Time Focused Lean, we have a series of soft-skill programs that help executives, managers, project team members and front-line workers develop the people skills that are so crucial to aligning employees to new work processes and maintaining an engaged workforce.

We are prepared to provide the consulting support project teams may need as they launch their projects following our training. Our consultants have the expertise to make sure each project team is able to effectively engage relevant stakeholders, consider multiple contingencies and implement their project plans successfully. Our consultants have a strong record of enabling project teams to achieve immediate project results. We also work to "embed the process" by helping organizations develop the internal capacity to sustain the process over the long term and take steps to create a culture of continuous improvement.

In addition, we have a series of measurement tools that assist clients to identify how current leadership, management and team practices are helping or hindering lean performance. Our assessment tools provide insight into the behaviors required to implement change initiatives, develop people and work in teams successfully. We are also able to take post-action assessments to measure progress made and the extent to which each project has achieved its objectives.

The goal of our approach is to help organizations implement a sustainable process; one that gets results and transforms each organization's culture.
