Department
of Defense/Inspector General
Scope of Work:
The
Department of Defense/Inspector General (DOD/IG) organization has been
responsible for integrating the training and development needs for
executives, audit managers, and auditors among all the military service
branches. They have served
as the focal point and centralized contact for the training needs of
Army, Navy, Air Force, DOD and other smaller audit agencies within the
military structure. Working
closely with training representatives from the four largest agencies,
Sterling Institute developed and delivered a 5-day Audit
Management training program for middle-level managers.
This intensive, experiential program focused on team leadership,
team development within the audit environment, and utilized video-based
case study materials developed around the functions and management
responsibilities of auditors.
In
addition to the video case studies, the program also utilized Sterling's
Management Practices Survey
and a custom-designed Development
Review Guide to address significant aspects of the training
requirements. The
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
was included to enable self-assessment in relation to management and
leadership behaviors. Finally,
data from these instruments was compiled for purposes of enhancing
organizational analysis and change opportunities.
Accomplishments:
Response
to the program was extremely positive.
Expectations were exceeded in terms of the reception of the video
case study methodology, the assessment processes, and the level of
interaction and communication among the various agency participants.
More than 500 managers have completed this program. |
