Experiential Learning Alternatives for
Management and Executive Development

Computer-Assisted Learning

The third unique feature of the new method is that it uses a computer to compress the learning process.  It is the computer that makes it possible for the Accelerated Experience Method to teach managers in a fraction of  the time required by their own experience on the job.  It does this mainly by eliminating “non learning time.”

The computer performs three functions.  First, it provides immediate feedback on results.  Second, it scores and holds managers accountable and third, it requires managers to live with the consequences of their decisions.

When managers enter a decision into the computer, it immediately  informs them of the outcome that would have occurred in the real situation.  It also scores them on their performance and holds them accountable by comparing their performance periodically them to deal with whatever new problem their decision has created.

Finally, if they make a mistake, the computer informs them of the consequences and directs them to deal with whatever new problem their decision has created.
