| An Applied
Development Program Our experience has
shown that if training programs do not help participants identify specific actions to take
when they are on the job, little or no real development takes place. In many programs,
managers do not prepare action plans and, therefore, return to work without having in mind
the steps they can take to improve their performance and develop their managerial talents.
Because participants often feel pressure to make up for time spent away from the job,
their resolve to manage more effectively is buried under the burden of their day-to-day
workload.
Our programs help participants set objectives that are
specific, measurable, achievable, time bound, and compatible with the goals and strategy
of their organizations. Moreover, our programs assist participants to prepare
comprehensive action plans that describe the specific steps they will take to achieve
their objectives. These action plans require participants to identify the obstacles that
could prevent them from accomplishing their objectives. The planning process also requires
participants to identify sources of support and assistance to help complete the action
steps and to avoid or overcome potential problems. Further, participants determine how and
when they will know whether they have achieved their objectives. They do this by defining
the evaluation methods they will use to measure results and by setting review dates to
assess progress. After testing the viability of their plans with other participants,
managers attending our programs are then prepared to implement their action plans on the
job. Successful implementation of these plans leads to measurable improvements in
performance, thereby making the evaluation process worthwhile.
